Meet the Nerd

Welcome to my blog! Thank you for stopping by! My name is Stephanie. I love learning about finances, I enjoy reading/writing and getting the most bang for my buck! I’ve been a reader of blogs for years, but never took the dive into writing my own until now. Fearless is the word for 2016. Reading the story of other bloggers has helped me in tremendous ways and taught me so much. I’ve learned creative ways to cut down my budget, inexpensive recipes to cook at home and of course, I have a love for extreme couponing.

I want to use this blog to discuss my journey of paying off my debt and empower people to do the same while also increasing their income. I will discuss the tools that I’ve utilized along the way to get this accomplished. You see, I’ve never been debt free in my whole entire adult life. I’ve had credit card debt, car loan debt & student loan debt (both undergrad & grad schools). When I first became serious about my journey in September 2013, I was drowning in debt. The only debt that I currently have is my student loan balance for grad school. My student loan debt is down to under $5K today and I can’t wait to finally have it paid off! Debt free as of November 2016!

I was raised in a single parent household where going out to dinner and going on vacations were almost non-existent. Still, I never felt that I lacked anything. In today’s society these occasions are all normal, but so is debt. I even bought into the myth that student loans were “good” debt, hence, why I didn’t think twice about taking them out. As a first generation college graduate I thought that these degrees were my ticket to success, but over time I’ve come to the realization that I am my ticket to success. I want to live life on my own terms. I want to be financially free.

I’m excited to join this wonderful community of bloggers and financially savvy people. I love learning so I hope to learn from this community and share my knowledge as well.
