How to Deal With Naysayers

“Don’t give up just because of what someone said. Use that as motivation to push harder.” – Author unknown

Throughout my life, and especially while on my debt-free journey, I realized that not everyone will agree with my decisions and that is perfectly okay. I know that what I choose to do is not everyone’s cup of tea. I’ve made sacrifices in order to save money and I know that not everyone will choose to do the same.

My goals will not be the same as the next person’s goals. We will just strive for different things in life.

What made me think about all of this is because today someone made a comment that just didn’t sit right with me. Instead of getting upset, I decided to use it as fuel to ignite my fire.

Basically, I was talking to this person about buying a home in a particular neighborhood that I love. It’s been one of the places that I have always wanted to live in since I was younger. It has great schools and safe neighborhoods, but I will admit that it does have expensive real estate. This person noticed the cost of the home and decided to make some negative comments. I will use these comments as motivation to work harder towards my goals.

The thing is that I know that these homes are expensive, but I haven’t let that deter me from wanting to live there. I still happily check my Zillow notifications and daydream of a future there.

I dream big and I won’t ever change that.

HOW TO DEAL WITH NAYSAYERS

Ignore them. This is your journey filled with your dreams. What you do with your money and the ways you save your money are all personal decisions. Personal finance is just that – PERSONAL.

Remember your why. I’m not saying that this specific neighborhood is the end all be all for me, but it symbolizes something deeper for me. I want to give my daughter better than I had and that includes where I will buy a home for us. She is my why and I don’t want to disappoint her. I just want to make her proud.

Re-focus. Sometimes we get comfortable and don’t hustle as hard as we can. Just don’t lose sight of the goal. Laser in on your goal and make the necessary steps to accomplish them. Go after what you deserve!

Prove them wrong. Of course you want to accomplish your goals for YOU, but picture how much sweeter it will be when you prove the haters wrong.
